BRIAN PERKINS Born into the world of hydro racing Brian has not missed a Seafair race since he was born. His Dad has been involved in Seafair for over 36 years. Brian is a good strong competitor, has the ability to hit the start line on time, hold his lane, and doesn't slide out at all. Brian is alway considerate to other drivers, and says "I don't try to cut anybody off or do anything stupid while racing." Every day after school Brian would go down to work at the UH shop with Bill Wooster where his family keeps their boat. As a small boy Brian built models and ran RCs' out on the lake where his family lives. When Brian was seven his father bought him an outboard to play around with until he was old enough to go inboard racing. While racing Brian has reached speed over a hundred miles per hour in the Perkins Glass boat. For Brian to win as a driver he says "You have to be at the right place at the right time and just do your best. You can't be sorry if you don't do your best." In college Brian would like to study possibly Hydro Dynamisist or Aero Dynamisist or something of that nature. Whatever he does it will be something dealing with boats. Brian plans on racing unlimited hydros eventually. He says, "Racing Unlimited hydos has been a dream of mine and a goal. I think what I am doing right will eventually help me in racing to achieve the Gold Cup, so we'll see." Brian works at the family glass business, Perkins Glass helping pay for race entry fees and other racing expenses. His Grandfather has always helped out too as a sponsor for the boat. Brian says, "Without my Grandfather we would not be where we are right now. It definitely has been a family sport. Its going to take money to go fast. The faster you go, the more money it takes." For fans and those who would like to get involved in racing Brian had this advise, "Those interested in hydro racing have to ask a round a little bit, like myself, I hooked up with Bill Wooster at the right time. My Dad and I just started working down there, if you are at the right place at the right time you will probably get in somewhere. There are always limited boats for sale, if you can afford to buy a boat that is a good way to get involved."
