ERIC CHRISTENSEN Eric started out at Seafair 2000 volunteering. The Perkin's family introduced him to Joe and Jackie Turner, he bought their old boat and he was on his way hitting the water as a driver in the 2 Litre Stock class. Eric is outgoing, friendly around others and will help anyone out that needs it. He shows great strength as a driver by staying pretty calm when heI sits down in the driver's seat. Eric can generally hold his lane and maintain full throttle. When not hydroplane racing Eric does slalom ski racing for Hurricane Ridge. He said "I do Ski Racing, Slalom, Supper G, Giant Slalom, and Downhill. I am also in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 45." Is it crazy to race boats at the speeds achieve? Eric says "Those boats are reinforced with fiber glass, so they will take a beating. There is also an internal roll cage on the boat." Eric spent about five months re-doing everything on his boat and knows all the mechanics involved in keeping a boat at top performance. With a crew that consists of three people, and others who show up when they can, Eric has a stong support system of help. He does not believe in bending the rules to win, Eric says "If you get caught doing it you have already lost, so there is no point in bending the rules." As for his long term goals, Eric said "As far as in the sport it's the unlimited light. I crew on Joe and Jackie Turner's boat now, so I hope to take over that team when Joe steps out, but I would like to race against him, that would be a lot of fun. I don't want to drive a Unlimited Hydroplane because I don't want to drive a leaf blower. I would like to get into an Unlimited Light, that would be a fun class to drive." Financially owning and running a hydro can put a dent in a wallet, and having no sponsorship at all can really be hard on some racers like Eric. He says "We are always looking for sponsors. I do have one sponsor and that is my paycheck."
