MIKE JACK Mike went to his first hydro race when he was in his thirties. Mike thought hydro racing looked fun, a month later he bought a boat and raced a week later. He drove a 2.5 Stock for the first two years stepping up to the Modified class later with a Ford 2.5 Litre Modified call Adrenalin. Mike is competitive, fun and likes to be out at the races to have a good time. He says "I enjoy people and boat racing, and all the drivers like to put on a good race for the people." Mike adds, "I don't do anything stupid, I am a safe driver, and I just don't push it beyond where it needs to go." Racing takes up a lot of Mike's time, with not much room for anything else other than work. Mike says racing is addictive. Mike does all the mechanics on his boat building the motors, and works with his crew in the pits to get the best performance he can when out on the water. Although Mike doesn't bend the rules to the extreme he is a very competitive person and does what he needs to do to win. Mike's advise to win as a driver is "consistency, making good starts, and not doing anything stupid." Mike hopes to run Unlimited Lights in the future. He has a great support team and crew with his family and friends who help out. Racing takes a lot of time, Mike says "Its daily." With his family at the races they share in his love for the sport. Mike confirms what other drivers have said, "We don't make any money at this. Racing is all for fun and the love of the sport." Mike's advise to anyone wishing to get involved in the sport of hydro racing is to come out to the races and meet some of the people, ask questions, get involved a little bit. People can always get involved with one of the local hydro clubs.
